sounds to me like you got this upgrade thing down pretty well my friend and i noticed you mentioned pahrump. is that where you are located? i'm in need of a lot more education before i start shelling out dollars for chips and such, but i made up my mind when i bought this new rig of mine (06, 5.9, 3500, 4x4, auto, short box, quad cab, big horn) that i was going to keep it for the long haul and start a regular program of reasonable, non-warranty affecting upgrades, as soon as i feel comfortable about what to get (so many choices). trying to decide which upgrade to tackle first is hard enough let alone which brand to buy. seems like no matter where you start you always run into the "if you chip it you first have to do this, and if you do that, a new intake, and if you do that a new exhaust etc. etc. etc. i've been frequenting many forums and have subscriptions to multiple publications and i don't feel any closer to making up my mind. then again the other issue is, not being a mechanic, where do i go to get this stuff that i can't do myself installed and serviced. now throw in the fact that i have 10 different friends with ten different opinions on all those issues and you can see my dilemma. if we were taking a few hundred dollars here and there it wouldn't really matter if i make a few mistakes, but with installs and parts, we're talking thousands and one wrong choice could be disastrous. i want to get my feet wet, but the water sure is hot!!!

was that just a chip without having to change the exhaust, intake, or worry about egt's? if so i might be in. i'd really like an exhaust break too if they have one for an 06 auto. really, i would just as you say add a little power and mileage if that is possible for towing and maybe someday down the road go for more extreme tweaks. i'm also going to be using the truck off-road pulling at slow speeds and steep elevations.

Well I already Removed my stock muffler with a strate pipe and I have a Airaid air Filter with a Customised air box and a 5" tq tube that all cost me around 150.00$ i did all the work my self and I have a Autometer Pyro Gage. but you can just Get a Diablo Sports Power Puck and not change any thing elence The puck alone will give you 90 hp and 180tq. that only cost 165.00$

I was down in Pahrump for the TDR get together. May Madness. I assume by your user name that you are in vegas, you should definetly come on out and check it out this year. I'll dig up the dates. If you need some help deciding which way to go on a chip, exhaust or anything, just give me a call, see if I can't help ya out.

do you know if I can run the juice in level 5 towing without missing with the fuel pressure? Also I run hotter EGT when towing using the level 5.

Take a second to go to User CP and fill out your sig so I can see what you are driving.

I would not recommend towing on level 5 at all. Unless you have an upgraded turbo, intake, exhaust, clutch (or auto) or really want a new truck its not going to go very well with over about 8-10k lbs. Set it on 3 and scoot right past the Fords and Peterbuilts and those cool little FL70s.rotfl

I upgraded my auto trans, removed my CAT and installed a after market muffler. I was thinking if shorten my exhuast by cutting right after the muffler my EGT will lower when I'm towing. So you say stay away from level 5. What kind of damage will I do?

Well, first, leave the exhaust. The tail pipe is the last of your worries.

Next, you need to think about turbos and EGTs. On level 5 my guess is that EGTs will ge out of hand quick. The stock turbo is prettu restictive and can really hold you back.

Your transmission may be upgraded, but 120hp with a load can be alot.

As far as what you can hurt, dropped valve seats (wrecked motor), burn a ring or piston, crack an injector tip, those are some starters.

Whats the hurry? What are you pulling that you want to pull that fast?

Bully Dog for me, has worked well, I leave in performance mode and get about an average of 19.5 miles per gal. The performance is great

point well taken, no hurry I guess it's nice to go up a hill at 60 mph towing a 18000 pound trailer, but at the same time I don't want to damage anything. Thanks.

60 mph you should be able to do about level 3. Just lock it out of OD and let the motor work. I have pulled alot of the hills in Nor cal and central cal with my 13k 5th wheel and never have run into an issue. We have some pretty tame slopes round here. I think if you let teh motor spin you'll get up the hill as fast as you could want to.

well, went with the triple dog power pup and an afe stage II intake for starters. haven't had it long enough to make a report, my mileage is still just over 5 thousands miles and i'm getting about 17 mpg city so far. it went up about one mpg. like the simplicity of use and am smokin the tires if i'm not careful. never had it dyno'd so don't know what hp gains it made, and have it set on performance. it has towing and high performance as the other options. has other enable/disable features that are nice also.
