So took a trip up a 6% or so grade on level 3 (smarty) got up to 1300 EGT and 110 MPH real quick and backed out of it and recorded the nunbers below.

    Speed 110 MPH
    1337 EGT
    Boost 31 PSI

So, looks like an intake and exhaust mods are in my future if I want to play hard, what other mods are guys doing to lower their EGT's?

    Twin turbos..... :D

Seriously, removing your cat and muffler and replacing it with a strait through muffler will make a big difference. I don't really know on the intake, as I went with a BHAF.

Outside of that it's a different turbo. You can only fuel the stockers so much, which they can usually take a fair amount of power, but for a limited time period as you've seen.

Biggest problem with the stock turbo is the 9cm exhaust housing. Really restrictive. Creates alot of drive pressure, which means lots of heat.

A decent aftermarket turbo will flow more air in at colder temps and allow more air out of the motor and help cool the EGTs and help increase mid and top end performance.

You already have 4" exhaust, so ditch the Cat with an MBRP cat test pipe and replace the Muffler with a high performance MBRP direct replacement. Already bent up properly to replace the stocker with minimal modification.

A nice intake can help, like a volant or something to that effect. The AFE and such work well while drivng at speed by draw a lot of hot air when in town, affecting fuel mileage.

That sounds good, what about from the turbo back part of the exhaust? Is that worth doing?

Far as I know, you already have a 4" factory downpipe. Another thing about removing your cat, you've got emmissions testing right?

True, but I have heard that it's design is restrictive?

I believe just a visual every two years, so wouldn't be that big a deal to swap out. I should know this summer (2nd year) what they do and would want to remove the cat the next day. :D

Not restrictive enough to spend 3 times the money for a turbo back kit, unless you want to.

    Hi Guys!

just to let you know - one of the myriad benefits of our ACES II diesel catalyst is EGT reduction..

One of our markets is the energy industry, where our catalysts are being used on drilling rigs in the gulf of mexico, in V12 diesel generators that drive the drilling apparatus down into the gas pockets..

last year we had an EPA verified testing outfit come and run our numbers, and they showed a 23% reduction in Tgas, which is the official unit of measure for the temp of the gases exiting the engine.. baseline was 755, full load we measured 581, so there you go.. I don't have any data on EGT's from light duty pickups, other than anecdotal stories from guys with turbo trucks and cars who love the power we help them make at lower boost than normal.. not all monitored EGT's, however..

oh yeah, we also lower PM / NOx / HC. provide lubricity to the fuel pump, and upper cylinder, we'll keep bacteria, fungus and yeast from growing, and to top it off, you might get an increase in fuel mileage.. if you like biodiesel, great, throw us in there with it, we'll keep it stable, and do what we can for it's pour point..

My stuff isn't cheap, but we do everything you want.. point is, you can spend as much as you like on ways to make more power, but unless you are properly fueled and lubricated, you're not getting as much out your stuff as you could..

The document I hand out with all of these numbers ( and picture ) is too big to attach, so if you want to see it, or learn more, PM me an email.

    Thanks!

    Tom
