From what I've seen at the dealer lots, Ford changed from the rusting steel stamped diff cover to an aluminum finned design on the rear axle.
Does your SD have the new cover?

So many people on other boards say the stamped, rusting till it leaks cover, is fine and no need to upgrade to a Mag-Hytec or simular design.
If the stock unit is now changed, then I have to believe Ford changed for a reason and the aluminum finned cover has to cost more than the stamped steel unit.

Ford started using the finned diff covers in '06 on the Tow Boss trucks.

I saw it on the 08 as well. It's a nice touch. I wonder if I can get one cheap.

Just not on the 2008 F450, they use a carrier with no cover on the back. Oh well, I could add one to the front . . . :)
