After years of doing without, lugging around everything I needed to haul in whatever I could borrow, and just plain hating not having a decent truck I finally got myself a real tow rig. It's a '97 F-350 w/ 7.3 PSD, 4x4, crew cab, long bed, five speed. I'm going to go pick it up on Friday and I'm psyched about it. This is the first diesel I've ever had, so I'm looking forward to that. I've always loved this body style too, so I'm glad I was able to find one in good condition. The biggest issue I saw with it was this bumper is going to need some attention. That stinger is welded onto that bumper, and even though it looks like a nice bumper, I'm definitely not going to trust it to pull anything with. No big deal, fifteen minutes with the plasma cutter and the grinder should take care of that. I'm into 4 wheeling, so off road rigs are the main thing I'm going to be hauling. Here's my Bronco that I usually wheel: Being a full size trail truck it ain't light, when it's outfitted for the trail I'd be surprised if it was under 6000 pounds. The trailer I've been borrowing when it needed towed is grossly undersized for a truck that size, something of the 5000 pound GVW variety, so I'm definitely going to be getting a trailer in the near future, I just don't really know enough about trailers to even know what would be best for my application. I like the look of a gooseneck, but I've never used one and really don't know if that would be too big. Of course, as soon as my wheeling friends heard I had a tow rig they were wanting me to get a tailer that could haul two of these Broncos. Aren't friends great?
Thanks guys. I've already found quite a bit of good info on here and am looking forward to being part of this community.
