To my knowledge, the Alli is too big to fit underneath the undercarriage of the van.

Correct. The 4L85-E is used. I also think the Dmax is detuned for this application as well.

Can you tell me any thing about this tranny, what gm vehicle is it used in other than the van and will it hold up to the duramax if I decide to put some mods on to get more hp. Thanks for the input.

The 4L85E is a very good tranny. It is an improved version of the venerable 4L80E which is basically an Electronically controlled TH400 with an overdrive gear added. It will hold up fine to a Detuned D-Max

Why is it that the duramax for the van was detuned and could you tune it back from the 250 hp to the 365 hp ( i think the 365 is right ) ???

Likely due to the slightly lighter duty 4L85E and also likely doesn't have the weight rating a 3/4t or 1 ton pickup does. Most of the time when people buy vans in the 3/4-1 ton range, they plan to fill it with equipment or what not. Say, like a plumber, electrician, water service delivery vehicle..... It's pretty hard to get those vehicles all that heavy ( far from getting over 10K) and a 250HP Duramax probably still makes a fully loaded van feel like it's got good power.

You are not going to legally get a 1 ton van over 10K, and thats not heavy. I guess I missed the humor....

Granted, yes. But, when's the last time you managed to get your pickup by itself actually heavier than 10K. It would be even harder to do with a van, I would think.

Regardless, 10-say 13K isn't that much anyway. A 250HP Dmax would still feel powerfull at those weights.

my truck was 10k on the money with me in it and a half tank durring the snow season. its the only way i can get traction with 1900lbs in the bed.

im an odd case though, being a 2wd in a snow belt.

it wouldnt be hard to get the vanst to 10k at all, as they only have 3500lbs of payload. my tools weigh 2150, now add parts... driver, co-worker, interior upfits and a ladder rack...

Coly crap thats heavy for an SRW van. My service truck 4x4 1 ton crew cab doesn't even get close to that.
