Hey everyone im new to tow rigs and I was just wondering? Some of you guys have all of these mods and special things done to your truck to pull with. But for the guy without all that money to spend what can someone do to there truck that is cost effective to help on the pulling.

Make sure your using high quality lubes designed for what your doing with your truck and stay on top of maintence. Then you can get a free-er flowing air filter or cia and do some exhaust work programer ect. You dont have to spend a million to have a great truck just built it over time and take care of what you can when you can.

"2006 4x4 with 19.5 245/70's with dual stacks and triple dog"
    Sounds like plenty of funds.

I've had mine for 9 months but here is what I did.

First I bought it off of ebay for $28000, 2002 CC Dually PS 7.3 4x4 with 34xxx miles and 06 front end.
Watched the boards for deals. I picked up a 3 set of ispro guages and pillar pod new, never installed for $200. Then I did a "tymar" style intake $35. Next I gave myself a christmas present, a 4 pos flip chip from Tymar Performace, $225
Also put a new set of BFG ATs on it, not really go fast performance but money well spent. $850

Next is a bigger exhaust, looking to spend around $400.

These upgrades aren't much when compared to the payments but thats the cost of owning a good towrig.

I use the rig to make money on the side to do most of the mods. Like towing for people or hauling scrap cars off.

Welcome! There are many things available that are not all that expensive. Some have a great impact on power, some mild.

    welcome aboard.....

if allowed where u are, the first thing i wld do is rid of the muffler, it dont get much cheaper than a mod like that, that greatly helps in the EGT area waytogo

The first thing I'd do is the exhaust. It will definately help lower egt's and the easier the motor breather the less hard it has to work. I'd wait on the air intake as several test have shown the stock filter flows more that a stock motor can use and filters better. After that I'd change the rear diff and transfercase if equipped with a quaility synthetic like amsoil. It runs cooler and is slippier so there's a small mileage increase. Quailty tires with a highway tread will help mileage as they have less rolling resistance that a more aggressive allterrain or mud tire and they last alot longer. Also install a trannie temp gauge if your truck doesn't have one along with a good pryometer. Keep trannie temps down below 200 and EGT's below 1200. Down the road a good programmer made for towing (banks ottomind 6) will help alot. Stay away from the high horsepower race programmers as they will drive your EGT's way to high to tow with. Just my .02
