Hi, I am the new guy here and in need of a little help. I have a phobia about used vehicles, I get new to avoid other peoples problems. I want to get me one of the 3/4 ton diesel rigs but I have seen the prices up to 55K, crazy money! Now I am considering a used model and was wondering if anyone can tell me where I should draw the line on mileage when looking at used diesel rigs and what brand is more reliable. Thanks

I'd stay under 100K and any of the three brands will work.

I don't know how much you have looked but I have found quite a few 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickups in dealer inventories with little or no miles.
I have shopped extensively and the truck I would like to buy has a sticker of $42-$44k. I have chosen to sell my current truck rather than trade it in and that is the only thing keeping me from buying one.
I have several dealers that currently have trucks equipped the way I want them with acceptable colors and they have offered me $12000 off the sticker for a no trade purchase. So I'm looking at a 2500 Mega cab 4x2 equipped for towing, turbo diesel for $30,000. That is a far cry from 55k. Of course many people consider that, the old motor, but I would just as soon have the 5.9 same as my current truck. Downside is they still have the 4 speed auto trans.

Used trucks nowadays arent likely to be to abused cause all of the folks whom buy them for keeping up with the jones and trade em in every few years. Those are the ones you can get good deals on if your lucky.

If you live in a city, find a dealer in a nearby small town. They are competing against the bigger city dealers and will offer you a better deal.

Both of the used trucks I've recently bought had just 23,000 miles on them. I bought a 2003 3500 Cummins in 04 and a 2006 3500 Cummins dually a month ago. Your truck is out there keep looking.
