How much are aftermarket turbo's lowering EGT's, I always hear that a good turbo will decrease EGT's but never by how much.

It depends on what turbo a guy currently has, what kind of power he is making, how much fuel overkill he has with his current turbo, and which turbo he decides to buy in place of the stocker.

For normal circumstances, a couple hundred degrees at least.

Too many variables for an easy answer. Depends on what injectors you are running, what power adder (box or downloader), etc..................

Sizing them right is important since if you oversize it you will have major turbo lag..................it will take a while to spool it up. I've got the original HY-9 on mine (tiniest of them all) and even with Mach 1.0's, a Smarty (running on level 4) and a Drag Comp it handles all I can throw at it. That said, I do NOT run it in the quarter mile or I'm pretty sure with the Comp on 5x5 I'd have some heat.

The throttle response is incredible and that is what I wanted - day to day drivability. I will upsize it to an HX-35 soon as they are plentiful and cheap. Any other 'upgraded' turbo will set you back around a grand.

Like posted, proper turbo application makes a big difference. A guy running down the track will need a different turbo setup than a guy with the same fueling pulling 20K in the mountains.
Another variable is the amount of over fueling. if a guy is seeing 1500* with a Hy35, you need to lok at fueling and decide is he over fueled or is he having to deal with the bottleneck created by the stock housing. At that point, we can make the determination on how aggressive of a turbo to run to maintain as close to ideal spool up and egt performance.

Example - RJF has a HOT Juice, stock injectors, and 5" exhaust. His EGTs are high when pushed. now, I believe his 9cm housing is holding him back. A 62/14 would release alot of the drive pressure keeping him hot, and help supply more air for additional fueling.
Now, someone with injectors, may need a modded 62/14, like a HTT Superstock 62 or a II SPS62 to supply more air to get their EGTs in check.

Having just the right size turbo is great, having a too small turbo is bad, and having a way too big of a turbo is worse!

    What year?

    89-90 had a W1C with a 18cm housing
    91-93 had a W1C with a 21.5cm housing
    94-99 had an HX35 with a 12cm housing
    2000-2002 autos had a HY 35 with a 9cm housing
    2000-2002 sticks had HX35's with 12cm housings
2003 and newer truck use a newer model HY35 and 9cm housing

If you are saking about your 2006, then a 62/14 or comparable will be fine. The BD Super B single is about the Best value in this market. Much more than 450hp and look at HTT and Industrial Injection's modified 62's, or the BD Super B Special.
