Hi i'm new to the forum and to diesel ownership. I have and 03 4x4 2500 cummins. I installed the AFE stage II and have 4" Magnaflow exhaust with no cat. The wastegate on the turbo opens alot during acceleration and during the shift from 2nd to 3rd while towing my boat. What is the best fix.
well, there isn't really a problem. The wastegate is there to direct drive pressure away from the turbine to control boost levels. Your turbo compressor is only efficecnt to about 36-38 lbs of boost. With the 9cm housing that turbo has, there is alot of pressure applied to the turbine. The wastegate is operating as it should. There should be no need for more boost unless you have injectors. Now, if more boost is what you want, it is possible. a Quadzilla boost fooler will allow you to run what ever boost pressures you want, and you'll have to also purchase and adjustable boost elbow. With stock fueling, I think this would be a waste of time and money.
Thanks The next step for my truck will be a programmer. I have narrowed it down to either the Triple Dog with outlook, PPE, or the TST. I want something that I can get big power out of later. My bud has the Triple Dog on his 05 with the Crazy Larry and it's awesome. You are a dealer is the Crazy Larry tune available for the 03 or not. I have heard it both ways.
