I'm looking at a truck for my son to buy it is a 1991 Ford diesel with the 7.3 and a ATS turbo on it. Talked to the guy that is selling it and he says that the engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago and the auto (E40D) transmission was done about 6 months ago it is 4x4 extended cab long box body is rough but seems to run good he wants $5500 do you think that its worth it? Remember it will be a 16 year olds truck he will have to use it on the farm but he will also use it for school and other things that kids do.

IF the guy can show receipts, then it is a fair deal, because of the updated mechanicals, Regardless of the age.

bodywork/rust repair would be a good thing for him to learn

What some of the other replies don't take into account is that diesel commands a premium, and the turbo 7.3 would be my first choice, only changed by the price of the 2nd choice.

Let us know what you decide.
