I am cuious if it's ok to pull 14-15k pounds with an F350 powerstroke? It is an auto 4wd with a heavy duty hitch that is part of the knapheide utility box and tied into the frame. I am asking because I like the utility box, but it prevents me from running any standard gooseneck trailer. The load would be a 5000lb blazer and a 4000lb Jeep on a 30 foot tandem trailer. I just pulled the blazer to PA and back on the trailer, pulled like it wasn't there, so I would basically be adding the jeep to it.
Give it a shot I've towed my 12,000 lb. toy hauler (bumper pull) with a weight distribuing hitch cross country, Pa.to So. Cal. countless times. I push a **** load more wind than you would be. Mine now has a Banks powerpack but it would hold 55mph before. Just watch your auto, don't let it keep kicking in and out of Overdrive. I smoked one that way. Also added two really big trans coolers since then. You can expect to hold the hammer to the ground and about 7-8 mpg. Good luck be safe jim
With that much weight I would upgrade to a 2.5" reciever hitch like the reese tow beast or similar. They are rated up to 17klbs. You will DEFINETLY want a good Weight Distributing hitch with a good sway control system. I would personally look into having a Gooseneck built with an extra high neck to clear your bed. The stability and comfort would far outweigh the minimal cost difference over a similar bumper pull.
I was thinking gooseneck would be safer. I might make that a winter project. Has anyone seen a writeup or anything on converting a regular trailer to a gooseneck?
One other thing the Owners manual states Reg. cab 4x4 auto 4.10 Axle (axle B5 in the door jam) is rated at 13,900lbs towing. So your not really towing outside of the manufactures guidelines. I also forgot to mention I have a 2.5" Hitch on the truck. I think it's a Sheldon Industry's brand It's rated for some ungodly weight.
