i just picked up a almost new reese weight dist hitch setup. 2" reciver head adjustable hight and top bolt has wedge teeth for adjustable pitch front or back. then the 2 load dist bars with chains. and the 2 clamp on ends for the trailer to recive the bar chains. i need some info on how to set up the hitch head hight and pitch front or back with my 10k flatbed trailer. pics can be provided and if you are giving info pics would be great. thanks all and hope i can get this figured out quick. waytogo
I will have to get pics later. I have that same drawbar and springbar setup. The trailer should ride as level as possible. That will determine where to set the adjustable height. As far as the angle, this is the difficult part. I like to hang my spring bars in a "drop 3" or "drop 4." What this means is that I count 3 or 4 links from the end of the chains on the spring bars, and drop them. So if I "drop 3," there will be 3 loose links hanging, and I will be hooked in the 4th one. If I "drop 4," there will be 4 loose links hanging, and I will be hooked in the 5th one. Take some measurements of the height of the truck with no trailer at a convenient place. I used the highest point in the wheel arch openings. Now you adjust the angle so that when you hook up the spring bars, after the trailer is hooked that you drop the same front and rear, or perhaps 1/4" to 1/2" more (lower) in the rear (rear carrying more weight). On a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, you may not be able to get the rear to drop 1/2" more than the front. It is pretty easy to do on a 1/2 ton. I hope this helps. If it is confusing, write back, and I will try to explain differently. My wife tells me I don't explain things very well.
