    Hello,

I am in the market for a brake controller for my 02 Escalade and think I just need a proportional controller. I am thinking either the Prodigy or the P3, but have found myself really liking the concept of the MaxBrake. I don't tow that often and when I do it is my toy car to the track and trailer (~7000 lbs). My concern is animals and just piece of mind at night. I really like the concept of being able to take out a regular controller vs. the hydraulic-to-electic variants (not that I think I will).

    My few questions are:

    1. Considering that I only tow a few times a month, is the cost difference between a MaxBrake worth it?
    2. If you had to choose between the P3 or Prodigy, which one would you buy?
    3. Are the prodigy and p3 the best proportional controllers?

    Thanks,

    John

plenty of threads on this one, and as always this area in my is no area to skimp on. P3 and prodogy are both good controllers FROM WHAT I HEAR, but i didnt like the prodogy when i used it one time on a friends truck.

i am VERY happy with my brakesmart.

I use a prodigy on my Tahoe (same basic truck as yours but you have a bigger motor) and I think that it is the best one out there. Granted I have never used a hydrolic based one but I have used cheaper proportional controllers and time delay controls and they pail in comparison. From what I hear the only advantage to the P3 over the prodigy is that the P3 is compatable with Electric over hydrolic brakes which you dont run into until you get into really big trailers. The nice thing about the prodigy or P3 is that it takes all of 5min to install and you dont have to splice any wires if you order the plug and play harness for your truck.

If I were you Id save the extra money you would spend on the maxbrake and buy some Airbags for the rear end or a WD hitch (if you dont have one already)

    Good luck!!

I had a Draw-Tite Intella-stop Ultimate in my '06 Dodge and I am moving it to my '07. I love it. I pull several different trailers with it and I have very little adjustment between them. It has never given me any trouble.

    Prodigy

I drive 5 different trucks. I have a Prodigy in my personal truck (2002 Cummins). 2 other trucks (F-250 and GMC 2500) have Voyager controllers, 1 (F-350 7.3)has a draw-tite, and one (1993 Cummins) has some generic one. The Prodigy certainly wins.

Another vote for Prodigy, I have pulled with the cheaper Tekensha's before, nothing like having to adjust your controller everytime you stop. Prodigy on the other hand, just set it and drive.:D

They are both made by Tekonsha, as are most brake controllers, I haul professionally and I prefer the P3 I have been using it for over a year and it is the easiest and best I have used, I used Prodigy before that, and P3 is Prodigies 3rd Generation of controller (p3)
