Damn muffler is like a 55 gallon drum.

It sounds sooooooooo good. Haven't driven it around much, so I can't say anything about performance gaines yet. It's 3" back to the tail pipe where it goes to 3.5". 4" from the turbo back one of these days. :)

You just cut out the resonator and muffler and replaced it with a piece of 3" pipe? Hmm.....budget strait pipe.....[thinking]

That replacement piece doesn't look like DOM. Will it be strong enough? rotfl :pimp:

Is it loud? I took my muffler off and now it sounds like a big block with a 40 series Flowmaster on it, but I would expect a "real" diesel to be a bit loud with no muffler.

I've been wanting to straight pipe my 24v, but I don't want it to be too loud in the cab. I wouldn't mind it but my wife, kiddo, and my dad may not appreciate it

I can't hear it inside the cab unless I'm accelerating. Above about 2200-2300 rpm it quites down alot believe it or not. It's loudest right at 2000rpm. You can't hear it outside with the truck idleing unless your standing right next to the tail pipe. It's cool when ya shut the engine off and walk around the back by the tail pipe, you can still hear the turbo blowing air through the pipe. :D

Sometime today I'll prolly set my video camera on the curb and do some drive bys or something so you guys can hear it. ;)

There is no resonator only cat and muffler.
Wanna make it sound even better look inside the turbo on the intake side. There is a snap ring holding a round disc infront of the intake impeller. Remove the snap ring and pull that disc out and you'll have a nice sound coming from the turbo when you drive. Thats the turbo silencer ring. It wont effect the engine at all it will allow you to here the turbo spool. waytogo

from my understanding the 12 valvers have a cat and the 24 valvers have a resonator. I straight piped mine 2 days after I bought the truck. I also took a old semi stack we had sitting around and made a nice tip. Perdy loud around 2100 R's

Yes your right the 24valves do have a resonator. Any time in close to a building or overpass I give it hell to hear that sweet sound! :D

I've got a 01 CTD 24V and I removed everything and striagth piped it as well as installed a 5" SS tip. Looks and sounds like an aftermarket exhaust. More throttle response and a couple more MPG as well. I would recomemd this to everyone.

Mostly it helps to lower EGTs b straight piping. Joe's 94 6.5 dropped about 100* and that is on a post turbo pyro. Pre turbo would probably be more.
