No biggie , I'm a diesel tech and work on a diverse cross section of engines they all have there pros and cons . I just have a hard time being gung ho to just one brand
Oh, I'm the silly one then...oops... I apologize... I still haven't mastered reading people's minds. We aren't talking about class 8 trucks, no one cares about class 8 trucks as just because something works well in a Pete doesn't mean SQUAT in a pickup. So, next time when you would like to add something and make a comment on subject "K", when we all were talking about subject "A", at least let us know you are saying something completely out of the blue, so I don't look silly and just assume you were talking about the same thing as the rest of us..... Ok, now I'll go after bigger equipment. There are about a fajjillion medium duty Isuzu van trucks busing around towns, cities, rural areas....across this whole country and many more. Many, many Dodge guys cloud there head with too much smoke, and for some reason think that their 5.9 is so great because Cummins happens to make other engines that are designed completely different and go into applications that are used completely different than a Dodge pickup, but because of this the 5.9 must be great.... because 14L engines go into trucks, which make their peak power at 1400rpm, max at 2100, don't even offer a converterd auto behind one, are designed to strictly go down the highway, and yet somehow all of this makes the 5.9 the best at moving a Dodge pickup around at the local main street or 4 wheeling through a wet pasture field. Gee..... I saw a guy from my hometown just get drafted into the NFL.... guess that means I must be good enough to play pro football too, I mean we come from the same hometown....isn't that enough connection right there?
Not sure, did you play any High School ball, are you athletic? But, seriously don't get your turbo all spooled up. I didn't need an essay on Diesel Tech, I said I was wrong.
Not to offend any Brands but I starting to go the Frankenstein route. The things I want are not out there or are way out of my budget. Noticing alot of guys in my area seem to be in same boat. imp:
Excellent points you made, however, on the 1 ton duallys like mine they really screwed me on the tires. 16 inch 215/75 is a ridiculous tire combo for this size truck just to keep their prices down. A Mitsubishi Eclipse has 215's on it. I nearly invented a new car 2 months ago, a Porshetta (Porchse & Jetta) when I couldn't stop because the ABS didn't want to lock up the fronts. The next day I was rolling on 245/75 tires on the front.
Engine wise I'd agree with your statement about gm(although i'll always be leary of aluminum heads). Dodge is have DPF problems with the new 6.7, and where do i begin to list the new 6.4 problems. My only problem with GM is there is no manual trans. option, real drivers don't buy automatics if they can help it
I haven't figured that one out, if auto's are so great and can tow so much more, why isn't every 18 wheeler equipped with one? I'm not trying to be a smart ass but I worked for a major trucking company and some of their new hire's could shift gears to save their lives. Auto's would make their lives easier.
i think we all agree that theres a difference between an 18 wheeler and our much smaller light duty trucks. You might as well say "why don't we have air brakes"?
True, can you imagine trying to make an 18 speed auto? 7 years ago I would of never dreamed of buying a diesel pickup with an auto, but they've seemed to have really figured them out!
Isn't there a 10sp auto for semi's? I think there has been one for about 4 years now but I can't remember the manufacturer.
Well: I looked at your rig DMaxRig.....nice. Why did GM quit making that one? The new ones suck.......design really. I can't stand them. They might be nice but I've driven the allison alot and I really like the new 6 speed auto that Dodge makes......very nice. Mike
Guess we would just have to find a farmer with one and ask his opinion.opcorn: For the record, I think the dmax is an awesome motor. Well ive had a 2001 duramax on the farm since 02 never had any major issues other than that injector recall and a park neutral reverse switch,it pulls great had a lot of heavy loads behind it you could hardly feel it their i my self preffer the gmc over the dodge because i got tired of not being able to use 1st or reverse in the junk box dodge auto but the rest of the truck suprisingly holds up fairly well to being beat hard on the farm its a 97 dodge with the 24v cummins and the auto dosent have issues with pulling it starts to fall apart asoon as the snow plows attached lots of issues with trannys 3 rebuilds at 80k each one lasted about 10k. the dodge pulls great when the trans will handle it im about ready to put a five or six speed manual in it but its gonna suck plowin snow with the stick
