My other 3500 had the 48RE. I liked it but it just needed a gear or two more which the 68RE has now. It also took its own sweet time between shifts, which we all know raises temps. With the G56 on this truck I can downshift and scrub off speed faster than the auto, thus saving the admittedly inadequate brakes. I'm pondering an exhaust brake and a front brake upgrade.
i like the auto...manual would be great if you never got stuck in traffic like the whole counrty is getting. the new auto trannys are tough these days i guess it just boils down to personal preference.....
I have a 92 chevy 1/2 ton that has been beaten severly from plowing the last 12 years, with 190K and a second 350, it finally 'gave up the ghost' and died. It was a 700R4. If your RPM's are too high w/ 6spd, why not go with gear vendors O/D? Then you have 12 to pick from and a better OD.
Manual please. My experience with dodge auto's has been less than admirable. Remember when pulling hills, What goes up must come down at the same speed mind you.
I guess Im a control freak but you jst don't have the control over chanig gears with an automatic that you get in a manual for obvious reasons. Unless they stop making manuals I won't ever buy another auto. Justin
The Dodge auto in my opinon have never really held up well, now the manual are a completely diffrent story.
