Okay, So I am thinking of getting another slide-in for my truck. When I lived in CO, I had a 8' pop-up. I have the below truck. The previous owner installed a receiver that was the upper & lower inserts for using a 4' extension to maintain towing capacity. He did this as he had an 11' slide-in and a pulled a 24 enclosed trailer (snowmobiles, ATVs, horses, etc) when he went to play. I would like to do something similar. So, my questions are as follows: 1. I was always told you really need a dually for anything more than a 8' pop-up, especially a hard side. Is this true? BTW, not much for moutains in SW Missouri. 2. What are some good name brands of slide-ins that I can look for. 3. Anymore advice? I will be looking for used to see how much I use it first. NOTE: I would actually prefer a toy hauler, but the $$ is a little much.
slide in camper My neighbor in Ca. has a dodge 3500 dualy and he also has an 11 ft Lance slide in camper. He also has extensions on the hitch to pull his 2 horse trailer. He swears by this set up. The Lance camper has a generator, bathroom w/shower and is really nice for a camper, I prefer a 5th wheel or a pull trailer but not everyone can pull doubles so a slide in would be good for you. I have looked at campers and from what Ive been told Lance is one of the best, just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps. Hank:stir: p/s . toy haulers here in Ca. are being sold way below book price used as toys aren't selling good due to fuel prices.
I have always been told the extensions are dangerous. I only have a 7' slide in on my short-bed GMC but would love to pull my horse trailer too. What do you mean when you say upper and lower inserts. Do I have to modify my hitch or get a different one. By the way I have a 97' couchman 7 footer. It is nice, no bathroom though. If you look in my members gallery I have a pic of it. I made a 5' deck off the back and then my aluminum cooler rack on the front. It is great for the beach here in MD
