In a few moths I am going to buy a new 5th wheel trailer. The trailer has a 12,400 lb gvw and the hitch is an 18,000 lb Reese. How much horsepower/torque can I apply without damaging the hitch or trailer? Is this even an issue? Thanks in advance!
I don't think you will have a problem with your hitch or trailer, it's your EGT's while towing. With that much HP your EGT's should climb pretty fast with the extra weight I would think.
The BD engineer I spoke with said that the turbos would keep the egt's under 1350 degrees at 800 Hp. The water injection system I have should also help keep things in line. I don't plan on towing with the throttle to the boards, but it doesn't have to be to the boards to make monster torque. I am worried about the hitch and/or trailer breaking from a torque surge.
You aren't going to have 800HP, because you don't need it. Turn the electronics way down to a wimpy 550HP (rotfl )or so and just use the throttle as you need it.
