I was heading to work the other day and decided to get fuel. Filled it up and proceeded in. About 2 miles into the trip the truck started running poorly. I limped it to work, making it on time. I went inside and got laid off. I figured I had better leave the truck until I had time to think about the problem, so my wife came and got me.

I heard all kinds of advice about replacing fuel pump to injectors. I bought a can of HEET and headed back in to my former job. Poured the stuff in, ran the truck and problem went away. I then headed home with no issues..or so I thought.

Here is where things went terribly wrong. As I hit a speed bump in our community, the exhaust sounded horrible. I pulled into my driveway and looked under the truck. Someomeone had removed the bolts connecting the header to the exhaust pipe.

Summary.....1. It turns out someone had poured water down the hoses at the gas station. Numerous people complained.
    2. Turns out that catalytic converters are really valuable right now and someone had tried to take one of mine. My FORMER employer felt so bad he gave an extra 100 bucks in my severance check.

I am posting new pics of my truck since removing the stars and other crap from when I bought it. The fuel filters have been replaced, PS pump is done and radiator is next.

Oh yes..the fenders and hood...still red.

Getting water in your fuel is not good, but as for the cat I ripped mine out 3 days after I got my truck and I can't give it away no one wants them around here, so it just lays in the scrap pile with the other junk behind the shop. Sorry to hear about your job that makes it hard to pay the bills.

    Cats

In Arizona the cats and O2 sensor are required on the truck. Since it has the 1 ton rating, it also requires an emission test EVERY year. They do a visual check for all items.

UPDATE..the gas problem is fixed and exhaust hooked back up.

I bought a truck from ND once. Cats gone, smog pump missing, and the gas filler had been changed to allow good old fashioned farm fuel (back when regular was still available).

The 90 Chevrolet R3500 went up for sale locally until I got offers for 2,000 for it. Screw them. I can buy a cheap good mileage junker to drive around town and keep my baby.

Must be different where you are. Around here the scrap yards dont give much for them. Theres people that all they do is buy and sell converters. Thats where the money is in converters here.
