How's this? A couple years ago, my goofy friend brought his pickup bed trailer out to my house for a load of wood. We used my truck to haul the wood out of the woods, but he pulled his loaded trailer home (30 miles) with the minivan in the background. Wish I would have taken a pic of that. He later wised up and bought that truck from me.
How so? I towed a 1979 Ford F150 4x4 on a 17' trailer through rolling hills with my K5 that had 5/8ton rear springs, 10" of lift, and WIDE 35" boggers....did fine until I wrecked.rotfl
1979 K10 LWB, Tired old 350/TH350/4:10's, 3" lift, 33" coopers. Towed this ~4000lb Uhaul 450 miles. What a nightmare! My old 12 bolt took a crap on the trip too, but I made it into town with it howling like an old dog. I also blew a fuse 50 miles into the trip and it killed the whole eletrical system (read: engine) and I had to pull over from highway speed with no power brakes or power steering. It took me putting all 145lbs of my skrawny arse on the brake pedal to stop and it still took me 1/4 mile. Fixed the fuse and off we went. That truck was a money pit and a half! I'm glad I sold it!
I've towed a 19' boat that weighs around 3500# or more with an Extended cab S15. 65 MPH on the interstate was all the 2.8L engine wnated in fourth gear but it was fun. I have also towed a four horse trailer with four horses in it with a lifted K5. That had the potential to be bad but luckly the roads were back roads with slow speed limits.
I've towed with this hunk of junk many times, although few of the times has it made it all the way to my destination.
I've towed a 5500 lbs Army tracked personnel carrier called a Weasel, M-29, on a 1500 lbs trailer with a 4cyl S10. Now thats crazy.
Heellllllllllllllll no, she's still sitting out back all in one piece. I could never cut something like that up. The only truck I've ever hacked up is the '75, and it was so trashed anyway it was pretty much like meat falling off the bone.
i towed an 84 TransAm from maryland to oklahoma with an 87 Dodge Caravan... i have also towed a full size chevy truck on a flatbed with a 93 nissan truck... and most recently i towed a 68 datsun truck with an 04 Chevy tracker... when i was a kid, my mom towed a fully loaded tandem axle horse trailer with a 79 datsun 210 hatchback later, Chris
I know a guy that hauls a D6 bulldozer behind a dodge 3500. He does about 45 mph going down the road.
There was a pic on another site of a guy in a Chevy hauling a D5. Some flamed the idea, others thought it was no biggie. Seems like a typical response.rotfl
I saw that, probably not the safest, but Id do it. A D6 sized machine is gettin close to crazy,although DRW is at least a step in the right direction.
