    Hey all,
First post on this forum for me so I appreciate your input.

I tow a 40+' steel trailer made to haul large racing rowing shells. This trailer is large, heavy, and tall, espescially when loaded with a full compliment of 9, 200lb. boats plus tools and riging. The truck that I have been using for the past three years to tow this trailer has been a mid 90's F-350 duelly with a 7.3L Powerstroke. This truck has had plenty of power and stability for this purpose, but is only a standard cab and thus lacks room for rowers and equipment.

This has led me to the idea of heavily modifying a 99' Chevy 1500 Suburban 4x4 to tow this trailer. This rig will have to be bullet proof and versatile as a daily driver. My initial ideas include replacing the stock powerplant with either a Cummins or Powerstroke diesel engine mated to a heavy duty manual tranny, swaping the supspension components for 1 ton parts, along with other performance mods. I am asking for any ideas on how I would go about starting and finishing this project. Ideas regarding keeping costs to a minimum are definitely encouraged.

    Thanks again for your help.

Why don't you just save yourself the headache and buy a crew cab super duty?

    Just curious...

I would guess that he already has the 1/2 sub and is wanting to find out if it can be done and if it can then how much work is involved. Yes, it can be done, is it worth it is another question. I would say that no, it is not worth the time or the money to convert your sub into a dually but, here is a place to start. http://www.chromewheel.com/

From this company you can purchase the dually wheel covers, wheels, adapters, and just about anything else you could want. Cool shop, and some really well thought out ideas. Hope this helps.

Keep in mind though he can seat an extra 3 people in a sub vs. a crew cab...

You would most likely be better off getting an 8 lug Burban for your needs. Maybe a deisel excursion? There is one on NC4x4 for $6K Fully Loaded.

There is also a V-10 excursion

Here is a swap being done on NC4x4 on a 94 Crew Cab 3500 Chevy. Same base as the Burban for the most part.

When considering all that would need swapped converting a 1/2 to a 3/4 ton you might be better off purchasing a 3/4 ton Suv.

Another option to consider is a 3/4 ton van. Both GM and Ford has them with the 6.0 (GM) and V-10 (ford) or they came with diesels as well. You can grab a cargo type pretty cheap.
