I just bought a 95 12v 3500 RCLB dually, its got 316,000 miles on but I wanted to give the old truck a new life. I would like to have the motor rebuilt and build it up to at least 900 hp. I do not know what the tranny is, I went to autozone and they gave me a list of 6 or 7 trannys it could be. The tranny hardley gets any power to the ground at all, it didnt have enough guts to pull itself onto the trailer...I put more tranny fluid in it and it seems alil better but still puts hardley any power to the ground. Is it the torque converter? With the price of tc's,the age of the rig and the power I want to crank out of it, would you guys recommend a new ats or bd tranny?
Now for the motor, to have it up to at least 900 hp, what are some of the parts you would use? I live in Eaton,Oh and Preble County Diesel is not too far, has anyone gone to them or used to get parts? Thanks for your help!!!

A 95 12V I believe has the 47RH for an auto. Someone correct me if Im wrong on that. If its a 5 spd then its a NV-4500. 900 isnt too hard to do so long as you have the funds I spose. Good luck with it, let us know how it goes.

Yes, the auto is the 47RH and the manual is the 4500. Now, like Loudnadproud said, 900hp is very possible, but not cheap in any way. And driving that much power on the street with a 12v will be very touchy. Question for you - have you ever driven a truck with that much power, or are you just wanting that number because you saw it in a magazine? Not trying to be a jerk, I just mean typically someone looking for that much power has an idea of what is going to be required to get it. You are looking at a very expensive and complex build.

Next question - What are you going to use the truck for? Daily driving? Dyno Queen, sleds, drag racing? Thing is, you don't just build a 900 hp motor and drop it in an old farm truck and expect the truck to hold together. You are talking about a complete truck build.

As for transmissions, stay as far away from ATS as possible, and for what you are wanting I don't think BD will be able to offer much. They are more towards the towing crowd. I would have Dusty @ HTS build the transmission.

In response to Diesel Nut, I have driven a truck with 600 horses, thats the most tho. The truck is going to be built for sled pulling, it wont be driven on the street very often if at all. I guess I didn't word my question correctly, but I know what parts are needed, I just wanted to know from the folks who have that much power what parts they used. Thanks for your help.waytogo

    Well, basically -

    Twin turbos
    Water injection
    Upgrade the intercooler
    EDM injectors
I would look at swapping the 160 pump for a 215
    full host of pump mods
You could look into doing a 24V or CR head. Then you can run CR pistons, and he head has much better airflow. Porting only improves this even more.
    Drop the compression a little
    Cam
    FASS
    Girdle
    Balance the rotating assembly
    Fluid damper

With your mileage I would bet the block will want to be bored, which, if you are planning to do a different head and pistons will be perfect.

Thanks for your help diesel nut, I was thinking along those lines too. I was thinking of a K31 and a Phat Bastard( What are the inducer sizes on those?) for the turbo combo or maybe a single turbo. And yes I planned to have it bored and install new pistons and a head....again thank you.

I think you are more along the lines of a silver bullet and a phat bastard?

Give me a call sometime and lets see if we can't get everything lined out for ya!

haha... good luck driving a 900hp diesel on the street. you would need that sled behind you just to have enough load to spool your turbo... and that's after you have buried the entire town behind you in soot.

but it would be fun to watch...waytogo

Well, we are going to be playing with some new ball bearing twins in the near future I think. I just have to fab the set up. Stupid insane spooling. We just finished building a motor for a CR that should wind up in the 850-900hp area. His turbos spool up so nice you would never know it wasn't a stock CR. OF course the Cam and everything else helps too, but the top turbo exhaust housing equates to a 17cm and still spools better any of the 12 or 13cm models on the market.
