So anyway new to this particular forum...had a 99 CTD Quad Cab 5spd that i sold(hated making payments) and bought an 85 K3500(SRW) 6.2L, TH400/NP205....blah blah blah...Truck runs and drives ok, needs some body work has about 80K on the truck. Going to use it to tow my landcruiser(hense "Cruzer") ...trailer+truck weigh in around 6-7k (i think)... I realize i am not going to go fast but thats ok with me...going to be putting my brake controller on it tonight and going for a test drive tomorrow with it to my buddies house to get some work done on the cruiser. Probably put a B+M tranny temp gauge on it next week also...were do you guys suggest? It will probably go in the return from the cooler. Stew
I too am a newbie Hey everybody, I would like to say hi to everyone on this forum and I hope that I will be able to learn and share my own experiences with other members of this website. i have been trailering for 35 years now, from dragging race cars to travel trailers to holes in water. I tow with a 2003 Dodge 2500 with a CTD A.t, etc...etc... i will talk to you all later!!! Mark S.
Welcome! The irony here is that half the guys on this site will be drooling over your TV, but they would have IT on the trailer! Nutty fullsize wheelers.
Thats pretty funny Permant-- I towed a 500mile round trip pulling my truck and trailer ~7K and it did fine. Installed a trans cooler and gauge and didn't get over 180..most of the time it sat around 160. Now the coolant temp got pretty high...230 was running the heater to help it out and pulled over ~3times to let it cool. will be exploring cooling upgrades and air filter upgrades(WTH was the engineer thinking when he designed that contraption of an air filter system?)
