MY dad's new to him '02 Dodge Ram dually's factory CD player is acting up. When the CD goes in it gives an "Err" across the screen. I'm guessing this means a disk error? His '98 Chevy burb CD player is also doing the same thing. IIRC the deck just needs to be cleaned. Right? If so how could we go about cleaning it?

Buy a CD player cleaner kit, that contains a CD with a brush on one side to clean the lens. They are available at any music store, or electronics store. If that doesnt work, chances are it will be cheaper to buy a new aftermarket unit then trying to repair the old one.

Did you try any other disks? I know some CD players won't play CDR's but I assume you guys probably tried some other cd's.

    Hope a cleaning works :doah:

Yeah, three different fairly new disks. No copied disks.

    FordCummins,

We'll try the cleaning disk. Thanks. waytogo

The best bet is to take them out and use a q-tip dripped on alcohol to clean the lens. ;) My 97 GMC gave me fits for years even though I used cleaning disks, but nothing worked till I did the q-tip thing now it works great. :D

I've seen 4 dodge factory CD players not read CDs. 3 of them we could make work by making a fist and when you put the cd in and it starts to read it whack the face of the deck with your knuckles quickly and repiditly and m,ost the time those 3 would work then. Seems to be a dodge thing.
