One thing I dont like about the torsion bar IFS is the way it "pogos" over big dips in the freeway. I have hit my head on the ceiling a couple of times because of this ( :doah: ouch my head) however It may be due to worn out shocks.
Don't know anything about a "pogo". Mine takes the drainage "dips" around here without flinching at speeds most cars can't come close to managing. Then again, I've got Billsteins on it. The stock shocks absolutely suck.
I think everyone stock shocks suck big time, mine were horrible. Especially after a year, you could really tell they were inferior.
x2. It doesnt seem to matter who makes the stockers, they all seem to wear out, and ride like a brick. Replacement shocks always seem to do wonders for my vehicles. I must say that perhaps the worst shocks I have seen are the "FX4 Rancho" shocks that come on Offroad package'd SDs.
I think they might even be cheaper than cheap Rancho's. IMO, and from what other guys have said, the stock Ford shocks ride better, and last longer than the Rancho junk the FX4 package gets you.
I mentioned those things in my post, someone DID already say these things. forgot about those two things, the infamous 53 block oh yes....how could I forget...:doah: And it wasn't just 98, it was '98 through late '00 Never even heard of any of these things before....from anyone that owns a Dodge. Never heard of anyone complaining of the Dodge brakes. Infact, over at CK5, many guys mentioned they prefered the feeling of the Dodge brakes over the GM brakes when there was a GM vs. Dodge post over there. I would concur, The brakes feel much better at the push, and stronger under load than any of our spongy GM's. What I don't like about the GM's is how far you have to push the pedal to actually get brakes.
I expect he is talking about the infamous drag link when he mentions suspension problems in the Dodge. My Ram never had any squeeks or cabin problems. Nor did I have any axle problems even though I was terribly overloaded at times. Mine was a drum rear and ate drums like candy. Sometimes didn't get 5k miles out of a pair before they warped and had to be replaced. Seemed to be a manufacturing defect in the ABS system though. After ripping the regional rep a "new one", it eventually got fixed after they listened to me and finally did what I told them to do...
RJF's Red Cummins, i was merely trying to put everything in one message like I did the Ford one so that it is easier to read at once rather than having to read and get bits and peices throughout the post. Like a summarywaytogo ...now lets see if we can do the same for thr GM's Again, the main reason for this thread is to be informative. there are so many people who post and ask which is better..........so i figured we'd tell where they all lack at! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, The most common problem on all 3 is the prices they ask for them. They ask on average 5k more for the diesel option alone! I know diesel engines dont cost that much more than a gas engine to produce. We are getting ripped from trhe start.
the axle problem on the dodge is real my uncle has a 97 dodge cummins when he had 60k on it the rear axle started wandering out on him while pulling a goose neck.
Dodge and all that use the 5.9L cum. will have oil leaks. The timing gear cover, vacuum pump oil seal, valve covers on the 12 valves. 5.9L 12 valve 94 to 98 fuel return (I.E. 5/16 rubber line) braking down causing hard starting and a leak. Fuel shutoff solenoid and relays fail and cost to much. Exhaust manifolds leak, warp, loose bolts. Ford 6.9L, 7.3L IDI glow plug system need to much service. Weak head gaskets and valve guides. Ford 7.3L power strokes 94 to 97. Main engine wiring harness, and under valve harness weak needed heavyer termanals and connectors, better in 99 to 02. Orings on injectors all years, and fuel heater in filter housing, both needed to be made out of better stuf. The 6.0L 03 to 04 runabilty cause by electronices and some injector problems. Ride problems on 03 to 06 because of switch to coil-over front supension. Gm 6.2L, 6.5L glow plugs system same as the Ford weak. Ds injection pump is junk, should have kept the old Db pumps. Duramax 01 to 04.5 injectors, injectors, injectors. If came with better fuel filters (I.E. water traps plus regular filter) would have cut fail rate in half. Injectors under the valve covers on all the big three. On the LLY is where they All should be.
As for the Duramax (GMC and Chevy) They have had wide spread overheating issues for quite some time now. I believe most of the overheating happened with the lb7 and lly Duramax engine. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one,
That's news to me. I don't ever recall an overheating problem unless there were mods or damage involved. Even here in Phoenix, with higher than normal ambient temps and plenty of grades to climb, I haven't heard anything. Do you have a reliable source? Also, unless I missed something, all current DMax engines are either LB7 or LLY. I don't think the new ones are out, but then I haven't been paying attention.

Do a google search and you will find many threads. Plus a fellow hotshotter has one that every now and then overheats. The lbz's are out too!
Ahh, thanks for the links. I guess it's been longer than I thought since I went over there. Kinda lost interest when I got my truck where I wanted it, and needed to reduce the number of time consuming forums I visited. Endless dyno charts and same-ol-same-ol was getting old anyway. No time for more than a quick scan, but looks like all those posts are covering 04.5 and later LLY trucks, and the threads seemed to all be from 2005 (after I quit visiting). Guess I should raise my head up and look around a bit more often eh? Yet one more reason to happily hold onto my chipped LB7. Ahh, the LBZ is the new big dog that just came out recently. I didn't think it was out to the public yet.
I heard about overheating problems with the LLY at one time, but can't remember the source. The new LBZ motor is OUT! A buddy has one ordered and should be here soon.
