The antenna's I ran had a sleeve at the top that just slid up and down to tune them. The ones I have now I was told to trim the wire under the end...
If you have a decent CB, then get the antenna's with an adjusting sleeve on the top of them. An SWR Meter can be had for $20-$30 at Radio Shack....
I've seen a lot of guys do that with no problems whatsoever. Like mentioned before though, just watch your weight distribution. Rick
