How hard is it to change the ball joints, what is involved, does the axles have to come out? Thanks for any help.

on a 02' I'm not sure but i do know that on a 95' f350 you have to tear it down to the knuckle, the axles do have to come out to be able to get the knuckle off

Thanks diesel95ford, I got up first thing this morning and took a 35 min walk to the nearest Auto Zone to take a look at a Haynes repair manuel and found out that I just needed to knock out the shaft main seal from the steering knuckle and then the shaft would just slide out, therefore allowing me to get access to the ball joint nuts. Now my next problem is getting the ball joints pressed out of the steering knuckle and the new ones in.

there are many ways to do that. if you dont have a press you can get the old ones out with a socket and a hammer and use a piece of pipe and hammer to get them back in. you can also bye a ball joint and u joint service tool that makes it simple to change out ball joints

Thank you, I will try the socket and hammer suggestion.
