My 03 2500 has 87K. mi on it , All stock as far as performance goes. I bought it from the orig. owner at 80k. mi and 2k mi ago I put an Edge EZ on and loved it, until the day it would not start and stranded me at work. Had it towed to the Dodge dealer and tested out as " bad injectors". They said at least one was stuck open and all fuel pressure was going through the return line back to the tank. They had the nerve to tell me my Edge "HOT BOX" was the cause and it would not be waranteed. not wanting to pay the $3600. the dealer wanted to replace the injectors ! I had it towed to a good diesel shop refered by a friend. It sat for a few days until they could run their tests, but it started every time they tried to test it. So they put a new fleetguard fuel filter in and sent me on my way. But they were kind enough to tell me the injectors in the 03's suck. and i should put in a set of 50hp. Dynamite diesel in to make it reliable. If you had not noticed from the 7k.mi in the year that I have owned it that in is mainly only driven to tow or when I have to haul somthing. Could that be part of the problem? Now a month later it would not start for three days. Today it started and runs like nothing is wrong. At last my Question: Will spending $3k + on good injectors make it reliable. Any help is appreciated.
If your injectors are failing a set of Dynomite Nozzles will not help your situation. Your only option is to replace the whole injector, the body and the nozzle. How is the truck running now? Keep an eye on your oil level. If your injectors are bad, you will start to "make oil" in that the oil level will rise from the diesel fuel being pumped into the crankcase. If you see that park it and plan on buying new injectors.
Oh yes we plan on replacing the complete injectors with the 50hp. set, As for the truck it runs awesome. The same way it did before until it does not start. I will be sure to check the oil level. But I really don't plan on driving it until I get it fixed. After the second time of not starting it can't be trusted. I just wanted to make sure that we were not throwing parts and $ at it.
tuff call, are you getting any fuel in the oil? id do an oil anlyss and see what it shows the edge ez may have been your problame,as for injectors have herd alot of good of ddps but i would also recomend dons f1s they are awsume on the common rails im getting a set of 1.8s for mine, they will handle the pressure that the boxes put out.opcorn:
So far no fuel in the oil but it has only moved out of the driveway and driven long enough to come up to operating temp. twice since I first posted. just dont want to be stranded, and I have two other vehicles to drive. I will probably go with the ddp set but will check out the Dons. I also tried removing the Edge the first time it would'nt start and it made no difference.
This sounds more like a lift pump problem rather than bad injectors if you had a injector stuck opened you would know it in a hurry by the amount of fuel in your oil even if you are not driving it that far. Just my two cents
Sent my truck to Hendricks diesel in Stayton,OR. (Mark Hendricks is a straight shooter in my oppinion.) Today to have a set of 50hp. injectors installed. The thought on the lift pump is that it will not allow fuel to flow through when it goes out. Will post the results of my $3K. investment.
The injectors were the perfect fix. Drives like new only 90hp better (50 from the injectors and 40 from the Edge-EZ). Sounds a lot better and starts like a dream. The mpg on the freeway is 21.5 This upgrade is serious bang for the buck!
