I'm right at 3000 miles on my CTD. This weekend I'm going to be towing about 6000lbs, 200 miles round trip. It will be about 2/3 freeway and the rest twisty mountain roads with plenty of elevation change. My question is, Would it be in my best interest go go ahead and do this oil change now or should I just go ahead and wait till I'm closer to the 5000 mile mark?
You'll be fine. Check your oil and see if its low at all though, sometimes break-in oil works into the block and rest of the engine. My buddy didnt check the oil on his 7.3 PSD when he first got it, and it was a quart low after 5,000 miles, didnt hurt it and it still ran fine. These engines run so clean and efficient now, you'll be fine.
As long as you aren't running a big fueling box like a Edge or TST cranked up you will be just fine. Good luck with your trip!
Thanks, I've checked my oil level recently and it's fine. I'm also not running any performance modifications. My CTD is completely stock. I'm also not planning on driving like an idiot. Last time I did this trip I pulled my Chevelle behind my Suburban (on 42's) with a 350. I had to pull over and let a lot of cars pass a couple of times. On the steepest part I actually had to pull over and put it in to 2:1 low just so I could make it up the grade. This trip should be really nice. I can already feel the AC on my face.
It was a great day at the Drags. Having a great tow rig made the entire trip more relaxing. I could tell it was a lot less stressfull for the entire family. After doing this trip, I no longer feel the need to do any type of performance mods to my stock CTD. I only want to add a couple of gauges so I can monitor the vitals.
That is a sweet looking set up you have there. Can't wait to do the first tow with my new rig. Scotty
After doing this trip I don't have any inclination to make the turbo louder. I actually enjoyed the quiet durring the trip. I can't wait for the next race day. It will be a trip from Murrieta to Palmdale on May 20.waytogo
