I have a 2005 2500HD x-cab short bed 6.0 gas job, what do you think about 2 jeeps about 7000# on a 4000# gooseneck trailer behind this truck in New England that will put me about 1000# over weight. Too heavy ??
I would be going to Hazelton PA (Pargon adventure Park), western ME and some in state trips from No. central MA. The truck has 16000 mi. left on the warranty. Each trip would be once a year. Thanks
If everything was set up "just right" it'd probably do okay. I'd be suspicious of the rear axle burning up, as well as the tranny. I don't know what kind of push you might end up getting from the trailer, but with good enough brakes on it and a good controller you should be able to keep it under control at cautious speeds. Might need a good airbag system to keep the sag out of it. I've seen farmers carry worse loads on lighter trucks, and I've seen people do better as well. It wouldn't be the best choice but if it's the only one you've got just take every precaution you can. If anything breaks, your warranty probably won't be worth the paper it's written on.
Yeah I wasnt worried about the rear end more concerned about the motor I think that is my limiting factor because a duramax in my same chassis will pull 15,500
I have the 6 liter in my 02 and dont think you will be good. For my stripped down blazer on a 18 foot trailer it does ok at best, i pulled a friends 99 tahoe on one tons and 40s and the truck had a hard time with it, I caint see being able to do as much wieght as your talking for a long time. The torque is not there and the tranny is a peace of poo.
I honestly think you could be fine assuming you keep an eye on everything and get a good trailer brake and set it up right you should be fine.
I overloaded the hell out of my old hemi truck several times and it pulled fine, it was extremely slow but it wasnt a danger to anybody. I sold it so I cant tell you the long term effects though. Only going a thousand over shouldnt cause any major problems as long as you take it slow and load your trailer correctly.
My truck is a 2005 2500 6.0 2x4 and I haul a 10ton goosenesck dump trailer everyday. Truck and trailer have grossed 41,000.00 on the scales and the local dump. Mines has 31,000 miles already and still isn't showing any sign of wear and tear.
Wow!! Anyways I have a friend with an ext cab LB 03' HD with the 6.0 and he tows an 11k Fifth wheel toyhauler with a much higher profile than the gooseneck you are talking about. It pulls pretty well over the grades of california. Just remember that it is a high RPM motor so you need to keep it wound out on the hills
with a gas engine all you need to do is use gearing to your advantage give it a high gear and youll lose mileage but gain pulling power, kinda wanting to swap some 4.56's in my sd like the power waggon has and of course lockers front and rear but need more money or a sugar momma.
