looks like the dual mass monster is raising it's ugly head...

My truck is an 07 DRW 3500 4x4..104,000 on the clock.

took a long road trip today...highway miles no shifting for about 120 miles...
I come into town and start to hit some traffic,,,and can't hardly get the trans out of gear,,,rolling along about 15 mph I try to get it back in gear,,,clutch will not release fully.....blip the throttle,,and it slips into gear...
so I baby it all the way home with the no clutch shifting method...

at one traffic light I had to stop,,,could not get it back in gear,,
shut the engine off,,pushed in the clutch and cranked the engine when the light went green...shift up through the gears no problem...

next light the clutch works perfect....get home...go to pull into a parking space...can't get it into gear again...repeat the turn engine off..restart routine and get it into the space.

I don't suspect the hydraulic pedal and slave,,,the clutch pedal feels the same as it always has... I have read that the dual mass clutch's are prone to early failure....I would expect more than 104K out of a clutch...especially since I don't haul trailers that much...and when I do it's only about 6k..

what say the rest of you out there ???

Go with a solid flywheel Kit ?

    LUK ?
    Southbend?
    Centerforce?

open to ideas at this point....

    Thanks !!

Southbend clutch is the only way to go IMHO. I had one in my last truck and it would hold anything I threw at it. You will need to replace the flywheel with a regular one, clutch, and the hydraulics.

Turns out that the pilot bearing was the cause of the problem.....was dry and falling to pieces..kept the input shaft turning when the clutch was pushed in..

I replaced the entire thing with a LUK solid flywheel kit....

Funny thing is....The OEM dual Mass POS.....Is made by LUK....it's cast right into the flywheel...:doah:

The springs in the dual mass flywheel were loose but not broken...the rest of the clutch disk,,pressure plate,,TO bearing were in perfect shape....lots of miles left in them...

Oh well,,,It's done and shifting fine...give it 500 miles or so to wear in...and then it's hammer time..waytogo

I will personally never put a solid mass flywheel back in place of a dual mass flywheel. I have (had) 2 trucks I done this to the granny's didn't last 60,000 miles before needing to to be rebearinged. Then after another 60-70,000 I had to do it again. I had spent over $11,000 on 2 trucks in tranny repairs.

You will notice the g56 to start to rattle more and more. There is a reason fir the Dmf.
