I was looking at trading my 91 GMC for a 86 F250 4x4 with the 6.9 and a 4spd tranny. I know nothing about Fords and was wondering what to look for as far as problems. I was also wondering what MPG to expect. This truck would be used as a farm truck/DD. Here is the link to the truck http://fresno.craigslist.org/car/320509163.html

I really dont recall to many problems on those model trucks one thing to look out for is the wiring harness on the pasengerside interfender sometimes they get hot and cook off. As far as the mileage you might get a few more mpg than a 460 or 454 due to it not being a turboed engine.

I thought that a turbo HELPED mileage, due to more air in the entire system... Am I mistaken?

Yes a turbo help mileage but the 6.9 never came with a turbo and I dont think the Banks Kit would help out much either go for a 7.3 w turbo 95 to 03 after 3.5 they went to the 6.0 those can be head aches.
