Hi all, i just picked on hell of a nice truck. It's a 89 crewcab 3500 4x4 with a lil over 87000 miles on it. It has a 454 tbi and 400 tranny. It has a 6inch superlift springs up front and blocks in the back.( not sure what size will measure tommorw)And rides on 33's I love this truck and got it for 6k, a great deal IMO. Only thing is the ride is a bit harsh. The truck is a family outing truck for me my wife and sister who lives with us. My sister has back issues and the short rides we have taken are bothering her. I am unfamiliar with 1 ton suspension and am looking for ways to soften the ride up so i dont have to medicate my sister every time we go camping. Are airbags a good way to go? Would replacing the blocks help at all? Any help is much appreciated
try pulling out every other leaf spring and putting the pack back together. you will lose some lift but the ride will soften up considerably, and there should still be plenty of room for 33s (it would be tight with 35s) Oh and Welcomewaytogo
If I were you, with that much lift...get rid of the blocks. Lift blocks are the poor man's way of lifting a pickup and while it looks cool, it'll place more stress on the drivetrain components. It will also compromise the ride. A 1-ton was obviously not built for ride quality, but if you wan to make it better, I would pull the factory springs and the blocks and order yourself an aftermarket set with a progressive leaf stack. You can pull a leaf from the factory stack, however the spring pack was designed for that amount and type of leafs. You're on the right track with adding air bags. A great combo would be aftermarket springs with progressive leaves and a set of bags. Won't compromise load carrying capability and it will also improve the ride. Good luck.
