Ok first off I have been looking for an extended cab 2500 98 12valve for 3 years. I see a 98 for sale at an auction last friday that is badged a 24valve. When I open the hood to my suprise there is a H.O. 12 valve. The engine matched the truck both with tranny type and year. The turbo was the H.O. turbo. To top it all off the truck is a short box. Now if everything matches up this truck is extremely rare. Anybody an expert on how to tell if this is a conversion. Anything way of telling off of the VIN or Mfg Date.
    thanks

I have heard of other examples of the badging being wrong on the 98's. Could very easily been a mistake when they were starting to put in the 24v. You can take the VIN number to a dealership and ask them to print out a build sheet. If everything else matches up it was probably just on mistake on the badging

Well before I posted I called the dealership with the VIN and the idiot couldn't help me, but I called again today and talked to my buddy Mickey at Lithia. Gave him the last 8 of the vin and he determined that it is a factory 12valve!!! I am pretty stoked. I have been looking for this combo for quite some time. I found one other but it was an auto.

Right on, auctions are the place to get stuff most of the time. We hit a LOT of auctions for farm equipment. Three years is a lot of time to wait for the right truck, good luck at the auction and hope there isn't many people. waytogo

Thanks man, yeah I have till sunday so hope the bid holds up. I am hoping not to many people understand what the truck is exactly. I had a buddy who sold a 98 12valve on the TDR board for $22K. I will post if I do get ahold of it and want to do a build up post, that is something I haven't seen a lot of on this board.

I'll second the good luck, those trucks are certainly few and far between. And a build up thread would certainly be a good idea.

Cool beans, did you end up with the early or late dash layout? Save room for a TRC sticker. waytogo

Thanks guys. The truck has the 98.5-02 dash! Its not the cleanest truck buy I am in the right business for fixing it up and the price is right. The truck (being that I get it) will definetly fly the towrig.com colors. What do you guys think about a buildup using TRC member imput?

Sounds good to me too. One thing I have been thinking about is we need some Tech stuff and product reviews for the home page. Doing some installs with photos and details on stuff like hide away gooseneck hitches, brake controllers, aftermarket hitches, etc. would be pretty good to have. I can't speak for Steve though, since it's his decision.

Yes I agree and would be happy to write some tech articles and do step by step pictures of installs. This truck will serve as my tow rig only. All tow and minimal show (I have a hard time leaving them alone). Things like exhaust brake, brake controller, hitches, air bags, steering upgrades, track bar upgrades, and fuel cells will be featured on this build-up.

well your the boss, point me in the right direction of what you and the members of trc would like. First thing will have to be the exhaust, it is in pretty bad shape.

Just take pics and do a write up of what/how/why you did what you did, part numbers help also, submit a text file to me (note pad etc..) noteing where the photos go and include the pics by themselves and I will take it from there. waytogo
