Next week I'll be getting a '92 ex-cab long bed 4x4 CTD. Looks to be pretty much stock and in great shape body wise and mechanicaly. This will primarly be my work truck/tow rig for the buggy. Now for the questions. Does warn still make their classic winch bumper for these body styles(couldn't find it on thier web site) and can you fit 35's on these things with little to no lift? Seems to be a little nosed down in the front but I have a set of zero rates I can throw in there to level it up a bit. thanks guys, troy
Nice truck. AS for the tires, you will need a little lift, like 3-4" minimum I think. Most guys do 4-6". I don't believe warn still builds the Classic bumper. I think its been discontinued. I would recommend putting a 16cm exhasut housing on it to help the turbo spool better and help out egts. Also, you can play with the pump a little to get a little more power and mileage. 5 speed or auto? The auto has a non lock up converter.
Thanks for the reply Nut. Yes it is a auto. I'm not that familiar with these trucks and I am really looking for suggestions on how other people would build it for the best performance without jepordizing the auto tranny. What's the deal with the non-lock up converter? thanks, troy
Its basically a stall converter. No lock up clutches, like the 94 and later trucks. Stock stallid pretty high for a Diesel, but still not bad. You can tow with it, but I recommend a Trans Go shift kit at the minimum. As for reliability, biggest thing is keep it as cool as possible. Heat kills transmissions, and without a lock up converter, it will always build heat. An extra aftermarket cooler will do nothing but help there.
Alright I got the truck. I'll try to post some pics in the next day or two. The only issue I'm trying to overcome right now is the injection pump is leaking like a mofo from the under side. Not really able to see were it's coming from. Is this something that is patchable? I've got another NV pump on a spare motor that I have sitting at the shop that I can put on it to get me by until I collect all of the parts to put the P7100 on. I really don't even know right now where to start with putting the other NV pump on as far as timing and what all needs to come off of the engine. I tried to find some step by step instructions on the net but no such luck. Any insight? BTW, the truck is a '92 not a '93 like I originally thought. thanks, troy
Just stuck a mirror under the pump with the engine running and the fuel seems to be coming from between the rear half of the pump(about a 1.5" plate) and the front half. Is there a seal or 0-ring I can put in there with the pump on the truck or do I need to pull it off. Getting the timing right on this thing along with disassembly/assebly has really got me worried. thanks, troy
Never mind. Found out that you cant just take off the back of the NV pump and put in a new O-ring. Lots of cool shiny and springy stuff comes out. troy
