anyone have install pics of an additional cooler or input on installation. also, what about removing the check valve in the cooler line and/or bypassing the water-to-oil cooler. my thought on bypassing the cooler is if i have 190-200deg water, it would be easier to keep the trans fluid cooler. maybe i'm thinking wrong.:dunno:

Bypassing the water/oil cooler will raise temps, its already been tried. I removed one of the check valves in mine and the temps dropped about 5 degrees. I also changed the engine coolant thermostat from a 195 to a 180 and that got me another 5 degree temp drop on the trans temp. My next project is to add a cooler with a fan for stop and go traffic.

ok...i won't mess with the water/oil cooler. the check valve you removed, was it the one located in the rubber line below the water/oil cooler. that is the one i was going to remove. i have a tru-cool cooler i was going to mount behind the large opening in the front bumper. i thought about taking the return out of the water/oil cooler and send it to the additional cooler and then send it back to the tranny.

    your thoughts....

I pulled the check valve from the oil/cooler line, going into the cooler. As far as a 180 stat: http://www.scheiddiesel.com/index.htm Probably will have to call them, only a little is on the web site...

    Trans Temp

When the trans was rebuilt in my 98 CTD, we added a deep aluminum pan. It seems to help pretty much all the time, OEM cooler on the core support was also replaced. I use redline synthetic ATF so the added capacity hits the wallet pretty hard when it's time to flush and change the ATF. But, not near as hard as a rebuild bill for the tranny.
