Which automatic transmission is more reliable and stronger between the Torqshift and the Allison?I know Allison has a great history with automatics but can the Torqshift be as good if not better.Jo e
No idea on the real answer. Allison definitely has "the name to beat" for automatics in working trucks, and when beefed, they can handle pretty much anything you are likely to throw at them. But I have no knowledge of the TS to compare.
Like BadDog said, hard to say. The TS hasn't been out for very long really, but so far I don't hear much for internal problems with them. My neighbor has one with an 80HP chip plugged into his 6.0 and pulls a 6 ton travel trailer. He says he pulls the hills at 70mph in OD. He hasn't seen any problems yet but his last Ford 7.3 with a chip blew through the 4R100 in 80K so I'll see in a few years when he gets some miles racked up. I would take the Allison right now....it's got a good rep and seems be holding up the best vs. the Dodge 48RE and older Ford 4R100. I would bet the TS is nearly as good though.
The TS is already in the middle of a recall, people that tow heavy with ones from a certain build range are splitting them in half... Some pin walks out, gouges the case and makes it split. Ugly stuff... I didn't even consider it, the only auto I would consider is the Ally.
