I am about to put my second alternator in my truck in one year. I plow snow so I have upgraded my batteries to a red optima and a large deep cycle(I live in michigan so I only plowed 3 times last season). Does anyone know of a place to get a good high amperage alt. Also I had one guy tell me to add a capacitor to my plow??? Any ideas??
i did see somthing on this on a form you can ge tthe older alt for the 1999 itis bgger and all the same bolt pat and belt we 02 and newer have the smaller alt ie the bad output give me a day and i will look for it
ok this is the swap http://www.alternatorparts.com/Ford_7.3_Power_Stroke_Diesel.htm this what i was thinking waytogo
Thanks, I think I will be getting the 160amp heavyduty alt. Have you heard of plow guys using capacitors?
sorry but no -- and i dont see why the plow would do that but the extra load from the lights -- my x with a 7.3 has a load with the rear ac and al the other stuff and i may get the same alt soon my self
The cap would filter the power and make it easier on the alt. As far as having to have one, don't know.
Thanks guys, I am going to start with the alternater. Iam still deciding between the 160amp and the 200 amp unit. I am trying to think ahead,I might add system and or off road lights in the future.
