Just wondering if anybody else has heard of other makes also running the Cummins in the near future other than Dodge, including Asian companies. :dunno: ?
I have not heard of anything. On the other hand it makes one wonder why DC buys engines from Cummins when They are more than capable of supplying Their own diesel engines. They own Detroit Deisel as well as having Their own Mercedes engines. DC also own's Freightliner, Sterling and Westernstar trucks. I don't understand why They buy from Cummins. Almost all of the medium duty Freightliners used to use the Cummins but now they use the Mercedes MBE engines which are very good engines with just as much power.
My guess for DC continuing to use them is just simply market pressure. The Cummins is pretty much the major selling point of the Dodge trucks. Without that name, even if they put in a realistically comparable engine, I would say they are pretty much guaranteed to loose the majority of their Domestic HD pickup market.
In another thread I mentioned the use of a Mercedes engine and that it would highly interest me. They do make good engines, but who doesn't these days anyway..... I pretty much agree with Russ, the Cummins name in the Dodges has always been considered the best of the big three in a vast majority when it comes to a diesel powered pickup....Dodge knows this I'm sure. What I'd like to see is John Deere get into the game......IMHO they make a better engine than everyone. oke:
I agree. Other than fleet trucks I hardly ever see a Dodge truck that isn't a 25-3500 with a Cummins. Do They even offer the V10 anymore? I'm not a Dodge fan so I really don't follow Them.
Nope, the 5.7 Hemi is the only gas engine you can get in any Dodge truck (at least according to Dodge's website).
Well, if you want to get technical, you can get the 8.whatever it is now V10 in the SRT-10, and the 4.7 V8 in a 1/2 ton :stir: :stir: :stir: :stir:
I have driven 1 million+ behind Caterpillar 3406's, (Bought a Kenworth 7.5 years ago have driven it 750,000) but they don't offer Cat engines in small trucks so IMHO small Cummins a solid 1st in the market for my needs. Inline six, seven LARGE main bearings and long life potential when taken care of. Current one is 24v in 1998 4x4. 20+ mpg on trips solo, 13+ pulling K5 offroad toy. Step 1. Get in. Step 2. Leave. Step 3. Return. Repeat as necessary. Not down on Powerstroke or Duramax, but 90% + big trucks run I 6 power. Go to Diesel Injection, Inc. site for more. Guys name is Bruce Mallinson. He rode with a dude named the Flyin Hawaiin in a Western Star with a Big Cam NTC Cummins that AVERAGED 99 mph in the Pony Express race at Battle Mountain, Nevada a few years ago. DAMMIT BOY!
From what I understand, DC and cummins just signed another agreement, good till 2007, for the cummins to be in ONLY dodge pickups, and not FORD or CHEVY As far as V10 offerings, They did offer the V10 for the first part of 03 with the new 3rd gen body style.. There is a guy that lives by me that has an early 03 3500 dually with a V10.. Lets just say, he's pissed he got the V10, and now wishes he woulda got the diesel Scott
