This is quite the expensive mod, as I have reasearched it quite a bit. I was just wondering if anyone here had done the modification on this site?

    How about Non-Dodge towing mirrors?

    Let hear your experiences...waytogo

I don't have any swapping experiences but wanted the towing mirrors badly but when I found my current truck I couldn't pass it up because of mirrors.

I have read over at TDR that you can use the 3rd gen power towing mirrors on our 2nd gens. I'd like to do it one day.

Far as I know the wiring is the same. If you can get the power towing mirrors off of a 3rd gen all you have to do is remove your stock small power mirrors and reinstall the 3rd gen mirrors.

From what I've heard there needs to be a small spacer when installing the 3rd Gen on the 2nd Gen between the new mirror and the door where the 3 studs go. I have a friend that performed the swap and he used washers and said the mirrors would vibrate at freeway speeds and the fact that he should have made the proper spacer. :doah: .

From what I have read, you can use the base from a 2nd gen tow mirror and put the 3rd gen components on it. For me, that would mean buying two sets of tow mirrors to build the correct set, and then have a set of 3rd gen non-power tow mirrors taking up space in my garage. Can't justify it yet.

I swapped in the non powered version flip outs, and haven't missed my power mirrors since. I adjusted them the day I installed them and haven't touched them since. I have found they are so big flipped in that I don't even need to flip them up, thus eliminating adjustment. The defrost hasn't been missed either, but I live in California.

I went with the power extendable, power adjustable, heated mirrors from PowerVision and am quite happy with them.

I have the OE '01 tow mirrors, they have become loose at the pivot point ( at the mounting point on the door) I guess I'll have to take them apart and make a repair for them. There must be some sort of spacer or bushing along with a spring, I think I need to replace or repair the spacer.
    Anyone else experiance this ??
