I am planning on starting up once I get my knee surgery done. I'm not active enough at work and jogging burns more calories in a shorter period of time than anything else. That's enough reason for me to shoose it over some other form of exercise.

I started, but then my back acted up again, so I have to stop til I get it addressed.

It hurts like hell when you start. Like HELL.

I run between 8-15 miles a week. A suggestion for anyone who runs - go to a running shoe store, ask them to 'fit' you to a type of shoe for your bodyweight and foot type (pronators, etc). I had a bad bout of plantar fasciitis a few years back that was in reality totally due to wearing improper shoes. I overpronate and have run exclusively in Asics 2100 series shoes or Asics Gel Kayano. Another thing - buy new ones after about 300 miles - the cushioning does break down over time and can create problems with your knees, etc. I can tell when mine are due when I start getting a little bit of soreness near my IT band (outside of the knee).

Holy techno-jargon batman! I never thought that running shoes were so technical until I talked to a guy I work with about it. He's nationally ranked in the 100 yard dash (seniors) and told me more about shoes than I ever wanted to know. I'll probably start off in some cheap Nikes, but since I can currently only run less than a mile at a time they'll probably work OK for a bit.
