i just bought ats gauges and i need to know where to install the boost gauge fitting on the intake and where do you drill for the pyro
I can't remember where the boost guage goes, but the pyro sender goes into the exhaust manifold. You need to be familiar with what you are doing otherwise you could destroy the turbo. You would have to drill a whole in the exhaust manifold (Can't remember the size bit needed), then use a magnet to collect any shavings that may have fell down into the manifold, then tap the hole, and repeat the magnet step but this time make sure you get everything. If the metal shavings go through the turbo it will probably get ruined. Some guys say you can drill and tap with the motor running so the exhaust just blows out the shavings but I have never tried that and can't say thats a good way to do it, I just don't know.
i called autometer and they are sending me a clamp so i can clamp the probe to the manifold insted of tapping or welding it in there. I called the dealer and they said to drill a hole by the flange of the exhaust manifold but if you have any suggestions on that it wold be helpful but i kinda need to know where to hook up my boost gauge all of the companys i have called are telling me to drill a hole in the plenum but they havnt told me where
Clamp the probe to the exhaust manifold?rotfl I don't know about that. Sounds like you should take it to a shop to have your guages installed, a deiesel shop will know how to drill and tap your manifold and where the boost sender goes.
Your boost connector should be tapped into your intake. And pyro if your not going to drill and tap into the manifold you might think bout putting the clamp in your exhaust pipe post turbo. I would not recommend that but if you dont want to drill and tap that would be your best bet. You get a more accurate reading from the manifold though.
You do NOT have to drill and tap the air horn for a boost signal. This pic of the hard line in front of the MAP sensor is where you can get a boost signal. Be careful, there are two 3/4" pipe ports...one is a coolant passage, the other is manifold pressure. Do NOT use the band clamp attachment for your pyro probe! This is designed to go into your down pipe post turbo. For an accurate EGT reading, these engines MUST have the pyro probe mounted pre turbo. Drill and tap the manifold and use the pipe adaptor that came with the probe. Most probes come with a 1/8" NPT adaptor but some are 1/4" NPT.
