I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 5.9l Cummins Diesel that is 4wd. It seems like I get the axle seals replaced more than often from leaks. Is this a common thing with 2005 Rams. I also have a buddy with the same truck and same problem. We live in Fairbanks, AK. Thanks

I just had to have my pinion seal replaced due to a small leak. The truck only has 27000 miles on it. I am starting to think that it is a AAM problem, because I have a one ton, same rear axle I think.

Overfilling your axle can cause the seals to leak.

Front axle or rear? Either way, make sure whoever changes the seal also changes the pinion yolk/flange. Reason being, when the seal fails, it will score a grove on the o.d. of the pinion yolk/flange. If the flange is then re-used with a new seal, no matter how tiny the groove is, it will take out the new seal in no time.

I had to replace the seal in the front axle about 2 months ago (77,000 miles). Sure enough, the pinion yolk/flange had a groove worn into it's o.d.. The new pinion flange costs about $110.00 at the local Dodge Garage.
