You gotta do a lot of self-promotion, in person. when I hauled a dozen years ago, I did a lot of buying stuff for a return load, then selling in my home city once home. Not good profit, but usually covered the true cost of my return trip. Added hassle of more legal nonsense to deal with kills the fun.
