Just turned over 50k miles and needed a set of tires to celebrate the occasion. and had he allignment checked the machine said that the ball joints had too much wear and needed replacing after a train wreck with Dodge ; right box / wrong parts ; and two days of work missed I have new tires and new ball joints and the front end is as bad or worse than when we started. THE POINT... Has any one had problems with the front end or ball joints???
my pass side tie rod end is toast, so i have to replace that next month... i think the ball joints might be toast as well, dodge makes crap for ball joints...
:doah: Yes I did. Replaced top & bottom on both sides, plus u-joints on both sides on my '04. Had 120,000 miles when it was done. OUCH! About $1900. I had it done at the local dealer. I thought it should have gone more than that, but 50,000 is really kinda bad.
are you having a hard time keeping the front allinged, truck pulling to the right and wheel off centered? thats my prob...please give me your symptons, very possible there are lots of not educated front end guys out there...i asked if i needed front end work and they just shake there head...its got be fixeable truck is in good shape, please keep me informed, thanks.....
Every one now wants to replace parts and not fix the problem there are no mechanics any more most every one who turns wrenchs want to wear rubber gloves and do what the -puter tells them to do . ... but the front tires are wearing on the inside shoulders only the stearing wheel as far as I know is where it belongs and the print out that the -puter made before and after ball joints were identical(SP) I hate when people do me favors behind my back especially when I told them specifically not to screw with the front end .
my problem is a little uneven wear on the front tires pulls to the right and steeribg wheel cocked eyed to the left....4 allingments in 5 months and stil the same thing....its drivable acroos the country but its a pain ii the ass fighting the steering wheel.....maybe i am wrong since this is my first 1ton, but the steering should be a little more user friendly....any info would be great for a front end guy in houston, tx....i think i will try a diff dodge dealer this week...like my truck to much to trade out of.....
You may want to look into an adjustable ball joint. I think the only place you can get one is from hunter alingment products:doah:
Sounds like a hard spot in the ball joint, but hard to say not looking at the truck. My truck has one right now, already did the passengers side. Soon as my shoulder feels better, the drivers side is getting replaced.
if i were to have the balljoints replaced with o.e. or adjustable like scoggins mentioned what kind of $$$$ am i looking at?? i am not much of a mechanic....
