Hey Ford guys. My buddy just bought a 2000 Ford 7.3L 6-speed. Since neither him or I have ever owned a 7.3L before, we have no idea what mods make the best power for the buck.

What kinds of mods (specifically chips / programmers) are ya'll using and why do you like them?

    Thanks guys.waytogo

1st, you buy the gauges-pyro,boost,trans temp.
    2nd, a 4'' exaust- turbo back.
3rd, a tuner/programer/chip. Tony Wildman custom tune chip would be the best for the 7.3 motor.

Or do like i did at first, and buy the edge or bully dog, ect, ect, that have the digital display gauges. After getting the real gauges i prefer the real thing(more responsive , beleive it or not) the digital are on a little delay by a couple seconds.

How did you like the Edge Juice / Attitude combo? I loved the one I had on my Dodge but I have no idea how well that chip works on the 7.3L

The juice is the only programmer i've used to date, but have heard alot of good things about the TW chip, I have little glitch problems with the edge, dont know why, so i am going to try the tony wildman chip at around $450.00 Let you know how it works.

I bought an Edge Evolution programmer for my 2000 7.3. Im really enjoying the horsepower gains. Haven't noticed any mileage gains yet, but haven't been able to keep my foot off the floor. I also like the integrated gauges, the controller is hardly noticable monted on the dash. Easy to install and comes w/EGT sensor and dash pod.

Hey Ben. Ok, first off, as posted, intake/exhaust. GAUGES! On those Fords they can mount 4 gauges on the pillar if he wants to.

    I would do -

    Boost
    Pyro
    High Pressure Oil
    4th is optional.

Tuner - Either a flip chip or 4 bank chip as they are called. There are a variety of tuners out there, we have had good luck with TS, tony does some crazy stuff, as does Tad. My favorate option is the SCT Xcal. They can be custom tuned as he advances the performance, but factory they come with some pretty good tunes.

If he ends up with any surging, then a Wicked Wheel and compressor housing my help that.

First buy your manul guages for Boost, Pyro and Tranie temp. Then do a full exhaust w/4" Down Pipe, I have a 5" on mine, second install a AFE State 2 cold air intake, Do the ZooDad mod while your installing the intake. Then do a Custom Tunner dont waste your money on the Edge, Bullydog and programers like that, do a I've heard and read nothing but good things about DP Tunners I talked to the guy this week and I'm having one made for my truck you can get up to 16 different tunes with push on the fly and you can even get a display guage for the switch that fits in the piller pod gauge witch I thought was cool. And they are way cheaper then doing a normal programer, also if you put a programer you have to install a boost fooler or you wont ever get the power out of it cause the computer will alwys be trying to cut the fuel to the motor and your engine light will be coming on all the time.
