I've read some advertisements about the plug in things for the boost sensor, that cheat it into making more boost.I have an 02 3500,K&N cold air intake. No other mods.I work as a contractor,so we live in a 36ft 5th wheel. It weighs about 15,000,I would guess. My question is will one of these help me in the pulling department? If it would ,how much of a difference would it make?

It's called boost fooling and it's job is simple. When you are fueling harder than stock, you'll want the turbo to build more boost to help match the added modified fueling. To keep your check engine light off and the truck from going into limp mode due to the ECM seeing higher than factory set boost psi, the programmer or black box just "fools" the ECM and tells it that it's still making stock boost PSI.

This is only needed on a truck with non stock fueling and timing. If you are only running an air intake, than you don't need any kind of boost fooling because there is nothing to fool the ECM into not seeing.

For instance....if you installed a larger set of injectors which bumped your fueling rate considerably and added say 80HP or so, then you'd want to get that turbo in the 30psi range and get something to boost fool the ECM, like a programmer or Smarty.

Fill out your signature when you get a chance. 02, but auto or stick? 5 speed or 6 speed?

Increasing the boost output will not net more power. It takes fuel to make power, and any increase from the boost will be minimal. Also, all the boost fooler will do is filter the boost signal to the ECM so you can increase boost. From there, the next step is to actually modify the wastegate to allow it to produce more boost.

My best advice, get a Smarty or Edge EZ and you'll gain about 65hp, you'll get the wategate mod if its a stick with the edge, and you'll be all set up.

Thank you both for your answer.I had wondered about the adding fuel part.As a licensed aircraft mechanic,I knew if you didnt add fuel while adding extra air things get crazy. As for the wastegate,I plugged it off when the truck was new.Its not hooked up,never has been. Its a 6 speed 2 wheel drive, with 3.55 rears.
