My brother has a 96 Ford F350 PSD. The brakelights are screwy. The rear two do not work but the one on the cab works. Where is the switch on these trucks to activate the brakelights? Is it the pressure switch on the front of the master cylinder? Has anyone ever had this problem? Where and what should I look for? Any help would be great. Thanks. Brenton
I have never had that problem, but I would suggest checking the bulbs for rust and the lenses for water and shorted wires.
The switch for the brake lamps is on the brake pedal bracket but if the third barke light works the switch should be okay. Also check the blinker switch. My buddy just bought a 1996 F-350 and sometimes the left one would work, sometimes just the right, and other times neither would work. I also had this problem on my wife's grandpa's 97 F-150 and it ended up being the blinker switch. The brake lights go through the stoplamp switch into the blinker switch and then to the rear. The way I found Grandpa's was by wiggling the hazzard switch and they started working. Do the indicators on the dash work? They wouldn't work on Grandpa's, and on my buddies they would work erratically just like the brakelamps. They are easy to change if that is it. You don't even have to pull the stearing wheel.
spray brake clean down nexdt to the hazard switch while rapidly moving it up and down. cleans the dirt off the contacts that collects in there and make sa bad connection on the factory grease. downside is you will have to do it once a year or so after the 1st time because the brake clean wipes out the factory grease.
