I need to replace the cam sensor on my truck. Is it easy to do or would i be better off taking it to the dealer. Don't know much about diesel mechanics but it looks easy to change. any input would be appreciated. 2003 F-250 7.3l 6" Procomp lift, banks six gun tuner, straight exhaust, aftermarket intake, 16" M/T Classic wheels wrapped BF Goodrich M/Ts
easy. 2 wire plug above the top left of the crank pulley. one 10m bolt holds it in. a small prybar and screwdriver usually required to pop it out then.
if you can try to warm up the engine first, it helps to get it out some times the o-ring makes it stick in place. one more thing i herd that some one on ebay is selling the 97 to 03 sensor for about $60.00 waytogo
I think his ebay user name was CRABMSTR. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-FORD-1997-2003-POWERSTROKE-7-3-DIESEL-CAM-SENSOR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33598QQitemZ8052362109QQrdZ1
If you get in a bind sometime, and need a CPS real quick, just go to an International dealership, they have the same thing at a much lower cost than any Ford dealer.
Like he said earlier, easy easy easy, DONT pay a dealer, they are rip offs. Unplug the cps wire harness undo the bolt take it out and put the new in. If you need the illustrated how to link let me know and i will dig it up.waytogo
Cps I did mine in about 20 minutes after making a similar post. Probobly took me longer to type it up than it did to change.
