I've heard about getting an extended warranty off the internet, and also just going to the Dodge dealer and buying one. Some folks have said that if those warranty outfits that are on the internet, go "belly-up", your stuck with a monetary loss, plus no extended warranty. Also, I've heard that sometimes the dealers aren't to co-operative about these extended warranties. Do most of the Dodge dealers sell an extended warranty thats under-written by the same company? Anyway, I just have my factory 3 year warranty, but I have a 6 year loan, and would like to have that last 3 years of the truck loan covered with a decent warranty. I do have the 7-70 from Chrysler, so I wonder if my extended warranty wouldn't be to unreasonably priced? What costs am I looking at, and what extended warranty companies have you folks used, and been satisfied with their services, and their relationships with your Dodge dealers? I want my Dodge dealer to have a trouble-free relationship with whatever warranty company I choose, and also a company that's will stay solvent.
For 06 (Dodge) I only get the 3 year 36,000 and the 5 year 100,000 on the Cummins, I opted for the 5 year 75,000 bumper to bumper for 2,000. bucks, if I don't use that warrenty at the end of 5 years I get all 2,000. back. The Dodge extended warrenty has much better coverage that the factory warrenty, if the dealership needs to keep the truck overnight then I get a free rental which would not be covered under the standard factory warrenty. Also, the extended warrenty covers most worn parts (not tires and such) where the factory one doesn't. I think you might be able to still purchase the Dodge extended warrenty, just call them to find out.
Check with your insurance company. Most offer some sort of "extended warranty" as a "rider" for VERY cheap compared to the regular EW guys. My wife's car has the new "serial electronics" (one wire caries multiple digital signals as opposed to the old analog parallel with a wire for each signal) along with traction control, dynamic suspension control, dynamic steering, heads up display, and all that garbage; all controlled by computers. Not something I EVER want to have to pay for fixing out of my pocket. You got to start the coverage early, like first year/10k or so, but it covers to 10 year/100k with something like $100 deductible for ANYTHING bumper to bumper. I didn't find out about it till my truck was over the 10k miles limit, but if (when) I ever replace the truck, I'll definitely get it next time...
Check with a local dealer. The dealer I bought my '05 2500 said I could add bumper to bumper to the 7/70k power train dodge waranty for $700.00 during the 1st year, $825.00 for the same after 12 months. And it's good at any dodge dealer.
I have a service contract through PRCO, basically Sutter insurance company. They have been fairly good to me, and my deductable is $75. NO dealership or shop likes working with service contracts. It takes them longer to get the vehicle in and out since they have to call the company to let them know whats wrong and wait for them to call back with whats covered. Then, when something isn't covered the shop gets an earfull from the owner because it's not covered....when it's not the shop's fault.... Most shops/dealers don't like SC's, but that doesn't stop them from doing business with them.
I don't trust dealerships so it's not really worth it to me to buy a waranty, I am my own waranty station I'd rather buy the parts and do the work myself then let some just out of highschool kid tear my truck up.
Not me, I bought a late model truck so I didn't have to work on it all the time. I don't care who works on my truck at the dealership, as long as they are qualified...and it they aren't and mess something up....it's not on me, it's the shop's and my warranty companie's problem. "Just call me when it's fixed and when I need to return this rental...."
Extended Warranty Check out www.eservicecontracts.com have called these folks on the phone too. Good cost comparison for DC extended warranties. JC
If you get the warranty when you buy the truck, you can negotiate the price like crazy. Just tell them to show you their cost, and offer them 10% over. They're still making their money. Be cool about it, and I've found that they will be too. I got extended warranties on both my current vehicles for about 40% off what they were originally asking for them. Marc
